Funding Opportunities

The Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) website is the main resource for general funding opportunities available to students.  Funding is generally divided into two main categories:

External:  Here you'll find information about a broad range of external funding sources.  In addition, you can access links to the NSERC, SSHRC, and CIHR awards' websites.

Internal: These funding opportunities are made available through Dalhousie University and its departments.  Included amongst these awards are the Killam Awards, Eliza Ritchie Award, President's Awards, bursaries, and one-time grants for student research and conference travel.

Helpful funding information for ID PhD students:

1.  Tuition scholarships are available to many first and second year ID PhD students provided you do not have other funding.  You are automatically considered for such funding through the admissions procedure.  It is important to note that you must apply before March 15th in order to be considered for tuition scholarships for the next academic year (September through August).

2.  Teaching Assistant (TA) positions might not be readily available for Interdisciplinary PhD students.  If you're interested in a TA position, you should connect first with the departments that are represented on your program committee.  TA positions at Dalhousie are posted only within the academic department  that is offering the course in question.  Ask your supervisor and committee members to forward you TA job descriptions as they are posted.

3.  Departmental Assessment forms are signed by the Director of the Interdisciplinary PhD program.
